I will run as many of the scheduled sessions as possible (weather permitting). Inclement weather is part of living in England and cancelling sessions is inevitable. Sessions may be cancelled due to weather if it poses a threat to enjoyment and/or safety. A cancellation email will be sent 2 hours prior to the session.

Overview

  • Secret Squirrel Bike Club is an after-school cycle club for a small number of girls and boys at Kemsing Primary School who enjoy biking. The emphasis is on having fun, learning, improving and building confidence.
  • The sessions take place in risk-assessed traffic-free environments (school playground and field and Kemsing common field).
  • Skills include the ready position, braking, mounting and dismounting the bike, gears, cornering, balance and coordination, climbing, descending and group riding.

Attendance criteria

Children need to:

  1. Be in Years Years 2, 3 & 4 for the Kittens. Although if a child is younger and has strong cycling skills then please contact me. Be in Years 5 & 6 for the main Secret Squirrel Bike Club.
  2. Enjoy biking
  3. Be able to ride a bike without stabilisers and start and stop independently
  4. Have a bike helmet (that fits)
  5. Have a road-worthy bike (with bar end plugs, working brakes, pumped up tyres and working chain and gears). It is the parentís/guardianís responsibility to ensure that his/her childís bike is in a safe condition to ride
  6. Be well-behaved.

Skill session rules

To ensure the sessions are safe and fun for all (including me) the following are some examples of required behaviours from attendees:

  • Be well-behaved, sensible and allow me to coach
  • Listen and follow instructions
  • Be responsible for your safety and that of others
  • Always be in sight of me
  • Try hard, not waste time and allow other children to do the same
  • Respect and support other team members
  • Ride only your own bike during sessions
  • Always wear a helmet when riding your bike
  • Be off your bike when the coach is talking.

Consent form

Parents/guardians are required to complete a consent form.
